Digital label Hot Concept begins with an initial transmission from Beigean; four uniquely British-Asian takes on house, EBM and disco, throughout which each decidedly raw interpretation is injected with samples from the extensive Bollywood soundtrack collection inherited from his father. No novelty dance record, Beigian instead embraces the dusty proto-roots of the body music he loves, reimagining their history from Chicago to Mumbai, via industrial Staffordshire.
Title track 'Dushman' is a filtered patchwork of choppy samples and a gently jackin' style, centered around a gloriously loopy breakdown and pounding percussion. Beigian slyly reworks the latter two elements into 'Dushman Beats', subtly raising the tempo to execute a rhythmic workout that's certain to induce sweat on any self-respecting dancefloor.
Adopting a tougher stance, 'Dekha' is a no less intoxicating trip through the Beigean archive. Cooing female vocal samples flirt with traditional guitar and a truly irresistible bassline, recalling an entirely imaginary jam session between Soundstream and Charanjit Singh.
Finally, on 'The Kinnow Orchard', our man in the Midlands keeps it simple on a rolling, smooth tip with UK a key UK funky influence, balanced atop the clatter of the record's initial concept.
Beigean began his 'Tava Discs' imprint in 2018. The initial release, 'Baat', received support from Djs incuding Ben Sims, Erol Alkan and Shadow Child, before quickly selling out.
